Who is this person?


Due to some roster moves in the offseason, he was at third base full-time for the Orioles in 1982. He finished the season with a .264 batting average, 28 homers and 93 RBIs. Good numbers, good enough to be named the AL Rookie of the Year.

But the best part was that he got to play every day. In fact, it has been since May 29, 1982, that this young man from Maryland last missed a regular-season game.

Yes, this third baseman -- the kid who started as a catcher and then became a pitcher -- went on to the shortstop position for Baltimore.

And Calvin Edwin Ripken Jr. has made history ever since.
